“When the pain of keeping the bud tightly closed exceeds the fear of blooming, change happens.”

alking about thoughts, feelings and concerns that are weighing on your mind with a supportive person makes us feel better. While it can be helpful to talk about your problems with close friends and family members, sometimes we need an outside perspective, or some outside guidance, by a trained professional to help you get to the root of your problems, overcome emotional challenges, and make positive changes in your life.

Feeling comfortable and safe with your therapist is essential for therapy to work. In fact, studies have shown that the quality of the relationship between a client and therapist is more predictive of a successful outcome than any other factor, including years of the therapist’s experience and the therapist’s theoretical orientation. My clients often tell me that they have accomplished more with me than they have in years of previous therapies, and I believe that this is directly related to the engaging, safe and supportive relationship I foster in my work.

As a clinical psychologist and former nurse practitioner with over 30 years of experience, I’ve counseled hundreds, if not more, women, men, couples and families who are struggling and want to experience life more deeply, enjoy more satisfying relationships, resolve painful conflicts, and improve feelings of self-esteem and well-being. I see individuals, couples, and children, as well as provide consultation to parents in my private psychotherapy practice near downtown San Francisco and in Marin County. I am a certified Emotionally Focused Therapist (EFT) and Supervisor, as recognized by the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICCEFT).

I know that making the decision to seek out a therapist for help is an important one. I hope that this site helps you get a sense of whether you would be comfortable working with me. I welcome you to contact me via phone (415-990-4228) or email with any questions you might have about how I work or whether therapy is right for you.
